Western Gaels is a combination of Young Players from the existing GAA clubs of Iveleary and Kilmichael in the Muskerry Division of County Cork.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING REPORT . TUESDAY 23RD JANUARY, 2012. ANNAHALA.

The Club held its first A.G.M. recently and all agreed that 2011 was a very successful year, winning two County Titles, in the final of U16 County Football League, and losing three other County Finals. The teams and their trainer,s/selector,s did an excellant job throughout the year. Success brings higher grading ,so 2012 will be challenging for the different teams. It was also quite expensive to run the Club as Sets of Jersey,s , and Night games took their toll. It is hoped to have a detailed financial report in the near future. To offset some of the expense for the coming year the Club hopes to have a Church Gate Collection in Inchigeela and Kilmichael Churches in the near future. Other options are also being considered. A medals Presentation will take place on Friday 3rd February at Clubhouse Annahala @ 8pm.

The following Officers were Elected.

Chairman Billy Twomey[Ivleary] was again elected Chairman.

Secretary. Mick Hennigan. [Kilmichael]

P.R.O. Denis o Callaghan [Kilmichael]

2011.

SEE REVIEW FURTHER DOWN THIS PAGE.

This amalgamation came about
due to the shortage of players in both of the existing Parent Clubs.
The New Club will be competing in Competitions ranging from 12Aside to 15Aside.
ALL THE TEAMS DESERVE THE SUPPORT OF BOTH PARENT CLUB FOLLOWERS,WHEN AND WHERE POSSIBLE.

The Club is in theNew East Region of County Cork at Under-15, Under-16 and Minor levels at both Hurling and Football.
The long-time rivalry, which is a frequent feature between neighbouring clubs, was put aside for the benefit of the younger players, and is working well as we speak. see side panel.

NOTICE TO TRAVELLING CLUBS.

LOCATION. THE HOME VENUES WHICH THE NEW CLUB ARE USING ARE KILMICHAEL G.A.A. GROUNDS @ ANNAHALA AND IVELEARY G.A.A. CLUB GROUNDS IN INCHIGEELA . SEE WWW.CORK.GAA.IE FOR FULL COORDINATES.

CLUB COLOURS ARE............................. RED AND SAFFRON.

Billy Twomey.Chairman,s Message.

Welcome to the new Website. The aim of this is to keep Players.Mentor,s and Supporters up to Speed on Fixtures/Results as they happen. To those of you who are logging on for the first time, this new club is a joining together of player,s from Iveleary and Kilmichael in the Under 15/16 and Minor age groups, in both codes. This has come about due to a shortage of player,s in both club,s at these ages, So with the prospect of being unable to field team,s, following meetings between reps of both clubs, it was decided that in order to give the players that were available the best chance of competition, we would join forces. These age groups are critical to the development of player,s, and with the new structures within County Cork,it also exposes player,s to diffirent teams/competition,s. We have player,s on Muskerry,Cork and Cork Development squads. This should ensure they have the best chance of progressing, and will hopefully bring on the other player,s. Finally I hope you will find the Website helpful in keeping up to date with Fixtures and results. Yours in Sport. Billy Twomey [Chairman]

East U16 Football Winners Defeated in County Final

East Minor Football Winners

County MBFC Winners

County MBFL Winners

Under 15 County Football League Champions.

Still in Under 16 County Football League Final and Under 16 Hurling League Final. Well done to All.

WEB SITE REVIEW.

Our first year in existance has been an exciting one in both codes, with the footballer,s in the three grades doing very well.

Under 15 hurlers had a pretty good campaign, and reached East Final to be defeated by Clondrohid.

Under 15 Footballers lost East Final and County Championship Final to Clondrohid, but got one back by a great win in County league final v same opposition in a downpour in Ballincollig.

Under 16 Hurlers never got to play Clondrohid in Championship and Clondrohid advanced. This was a pity as we had a very good team at this level.

Int the U16 Hurling league, we are still in contention for Honours.

Under 16 Footballers had a good win in East Championship Final v a game but young Kilnamayrtra, and were narrowly defeated by St Colms in the County Championship Final.

The Under 16 Footballers have reached the County League Final stage but it is up in the air at present. W. Gaels have been awarded the Title v Clondrohid. However in the interest of sportsmanship and fairness,we would prefer games to be won/lost on the field of play. Talks are ongoing to see can a suitable time/date be arranged to play this Final. No White Smoke Yet.

The Minor Footballers made a clean sweep of Titles. They won the East Title, the County Championship Title and the County League title. This is a very talanted bunch of lads and they were outstanding throughout the year. Six or seven of them are also on the De le Salle team motoring well at the moment in the Corn ui Mhuire. They have already won the Cork Colleges Championship in flying style.

We have two lads on Cork Minor football panel for 2012, as well as another lad on the Cork Minor Hurling Panel[Big Breakthrough] for 2012.

All in all it has been an excellant start for the new Club, and hopes are high for 2012.
